In the Cross

One of my favorite old hymns begins with the line  In the cross of Christ I glory, towering o’re the wrecks of time…
We are in one of those “wrecks” of time. But there have been many wrecks of time. God towers over them. Historically we can look back and see this.
Life is full of small wreckage too. That is what prepares us for the larger wrecks such as this pandemic. If I trust, I will have more strength, faith, and ammunition for the next struggle. Sharp turns, unexpected loss, injustice, or even years of pain are all wrecks that we survive. We can do more than survive. We can triumph.
This is what makes the cross so glorious!  The Savior brings what is needed. He brings comfort in many forms; His word, His church, friends, family, or memories of what He has done in the past. He brings peace when there is no reason for peace.  Hope comes through His word to reassure us that all is well – even when it looks doubtful.  Others may have empathy for us, and we, in turn, will have empathy and truth for him or her at just the right time. The awful situation may miraculously turn around – or not. Either way, He brings the grace so we don’t care about the selfish fear so much anymore. It’s all in the cross though.
God has promised to be there. He will be there, and He is here now. He will get us through. We are not alone. We can feel peace, and even a glimmer of joy while in the midst of uncertainty. In pain, we can have hope that the outcome will be exactly what it is supposed to be. Life will still be good because of the glory of the cross.
Do I believe that All things work together for good to those who are called according to His purpose?
