The reason that AA and similar recovery groups remain
effective and purposeful is because we don’t allow distractions. Our one focus
in recovery is sobriety. We as a whole represent many differing values and
opinions, but we unite with the one purpose of sobriety. We in recovery are from
diverse backgrounds, and that is the point: addiction has no bias in culture,
race, education, religion, or politics. This great evil disease crosses all the
divides. It reaches into every vulnerable crack and crevice of society. We are clinging
to the lifeboat of oneness. Hearing one another share about his or her experience,
strength, and hope is the only way to maintain our goal; life. Living our lives
is the goal.
That is my gratitude for this week. I am alive with possibility
of living a purposeful like. I can carry the message of hope. I can have a
future. This is possible only because of unity.
